I was first licensed in 1999. My first "contest" was as part of a fairly-competitive 3A Field Day as W4DCG in 1999. In 2000, I went away to school at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. While at Wake Forest I met W2DZO (then N4VHK), the driving force behind a small but dedicated team of contesters interested in multi-single dx contesting. My initiation into contesting was as a small part of the W4WS M/S crew in CQWW SSB 2000.
I fell in love with contesting while I was in college and had virtually unlimited free time. I operated a number of state QSO parties as well as CQWW and WPX contests virtually every year and experimented with CW and RTTY as well as SSB. After graduation and a short stint at a job I'd rather forget in Fayetteville, NC, I moved to Florida in mid-2005 and joined the Florida Contest Group shortly before CQWW the same year.
Since I've moved to Florida I try to operate at least a couple of contests every fall as well as the occasional spring or summer effort in IARU or the NAQP. I have no home station but have been lucky enough to guest op from K9ES, WJ9B, W4MLB, W4QG, K1TO, and now NQ4I.
On June 5, 2009 my wife and I welcomed Lillian Lee Plumblee into the world. Since Lily's birth, my casual contesting activities have been curtailed, to say the least, but I make the best of what time I can devote to my favorite aspect of amateur radio.
